For the past two month I’ve been waiting for the Puff Daddy Doc to come on. The stars were lined up like a muthaf’cka! This past weekend; Meek Mill’s Dream Chasers beat up Safari at a BET Awards event in LA, the Migos tried to jump Joe Budden at the BET Awards media set, New Edition did an epic performance at the award show and “Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop” premiered on Apple Music. Full disclosure, I’m a huge Bad Boy Fan and when I saw the trailer for the Bad Boy doc, I just knew it was going to be flames and I thought it was going to be 2.5 version of Jay Z’s “Fade to Black” doc. Why would I think differently; it was airing on Apple Music, anything that Jimmy Iovine green lights is quality and the movie was produced by Live Nation. What could go wrong? This project had tons of money all around it and it looked amazing! Leading up to the film I was eating hot wings and drinking some limeade with apple flavored ciroc.
The movie starts back stage with Diddy and everybody jumping up and down like they just won the championship and I was like HELL YEAH! Then they fade into a countdown of the tour where Diddy began to tell the story of Bad Boy. The stories were insightful as well as the behind the scenes moments of prepping for the tour. The whole time I was getting ready to see some kick ass performances as the count down of the tour goes on and when it was show time, the credits came up. That’s right, it was a build up to nothing and I didn’t know why they waste our time and made us wait so long for something they could have put on YouTube. They had Jay Z talking on a few clips and Nas came through but at the end of the day there was nothing to see.I was so pissed and befuddled because Diddy is known for doing things right or not at all and 10 yrs ago Hov laid out the blueprint on how to make a dope ass concert documentary and they still manage to mess it up. I’m going to be honest with you; “Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop” wasn’t what I expected it to be . I just don’t understand why would “Apple Music” put out a concert doc with out the music portion of it; it makes no sense. Don’t get me wrong, the stories and the interviews were dope but at the end of the day, I wanted to see the concert! When I watched it today with a sober mind, I came to the same conclusion and wanted to switch to Tidal. At least I know Hov will put out quality content.
