We should’ve known Jay had something cooking that lead up to this new deal with Live Nation. Hov went on a fire sell over the past year or so signing almost everybody! Hov even signed dudes he had beef with over the years! ( Fat Joe and Jim Jones ). did Jay Z signed all these artist to give them a fresh start in the industry or did he sign these artists to give his self more leverage? The last time we saw Hov move like this, he was getting ready to sell Roc A Fella Records. I’m going to be honest with you, I was completely floored when Jay z signed a $150 mil. 360 deal with Live Nation in 2008. To keep it 100, there was no label willing to give him that kind of money; Jay always been Jay and I mean no disrespect but I couldn’t even see it. It’s not like he had a stage show like Hammer or Michael Jackson! (R.I.P MJ ) And Hov wasn’t about to dazzle me with a guitar like Prince! (R.I.P Prince, The Great Purple One) Jay said it himself that he offered the labels that deal and they told him F.O.H, go make a song! Come on, an aging rapper that’s past his prime; there was no data to support that it was a great idea and investment to give him a $150 mil. deal and most of it upfront. I don’t beleave Live Nation think its a great idea to do a deal of that magnitude again. As a matter of fact, We haven’t seen a deal like that ever again. Live Nation snatched a couple more artist after Jay but at a much cheaper price tag and the music industry woke up and put a stop to it real quick. All the sudden the music industry got into the 360 business; even though they weren’t good at touring or artist management. The first deal gave Jay Z a chance and the funds to flex his executive prowess. In a short time, he started signing artist and producers to management and record deals . Out of all the artists that signed to any of his companies, only one was disgruntled. Wow, that’s the kind of customer satisfaction that makes Birdman bleed with envy. Hov also opened a sports agency as well as a music streaming service; Roc Nation Sports and Tidal. Tidal gives all his artists a direct access to their fans which is a great selling point to sign with a company like Roc Nation. It’s hard to break into traditional radio and not for nothing, Streaming services like Tidal, Spotify and Pandora is like the new radio. Tidal also stream music videos and live exclusive concerts. This deal proved to be fruitful and makes all the sence in the world to continue and to keep building on it. Another “W” for Hov. CONGRATS …I’m not gonna lie, I’m kinda getting anxious to see and hear what his next album will be like. Will Jay use his new partnership with Sprint and put his new album in the phones so he will instantly go platinum? Or will he go balls to the walls and sell his music in the traditional way like Kendrick? We’ll see…….All THIS WINNING!
